The German Foreign Minister on an Official Visit to Slovenia

Prime Minister Janez Janša yesterday received the German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier. PM Janša expressed his satisfaction that Mr Steinmeier's visit practically coincided with the 15th anniversary of sovereign and independent Slovenia. Mr Janša thanked the minister for the understanding and moral support offered by the Federal Republic of Germany in those decisive times.

Both speakers agreed that relations between the two countries were excellent and that political dialogue and economic relations were developing well. They also shared the opinion that Slovenia and Germany had many things in common and that currently both governments are endeavouring to implement necessary economic and social reforms. They assessed that the development of cooperation in various multilateral frameworks is positive, particularly with regard to preparations for the EU presidency.

Mr Janša and Mr Steinmeier also exchanged views on the situation in the countries of the Western Balkans. They agreed that the international community should continue to play an active role and aid the countries in the region in their future progress.
