Prime Minister Receives President of the ECB

Today, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Janez Janša, received the President of the European Central Bank, Jean-Claude Trichet, who again congratulated Slovenia on the successful adoption of the euro, and added that by establishing prudent economic policies, Slovenia had made a great effort and proved that it was capable of attaining the highest goals. He said that the euro was a strong currency, stressing that since it had been introduced in the Eurozone countries, the number of jobs had quadrupled as compared to the same period before the introduction.

According to Mr Janša, the euro as the common European currency is an exceptional success for both Europe and Slovenia, although in the initial stage the project may have involved some doubts. He added that Slovenia's meeting the Maastricht criteria while maintaining high economic growth was an important feat, and reiterated his conviction that as part of the Eurozone, the country would advance even faster, as companies would be able to plan long-term activities.

Mr Trichet welcomed Slovenia to the Eurozone, and wished all its citizens a delightful celebration of this great event.
