Prime Minister Janez Janša discusses strengthening good neighbourly relations with the Prime Minister of Hungary

Against the backdrop of today's 'A Welcome to the Euro' ceremony, which is taking place in Cankarjev dom, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Janez Janša, met with the Prime minister of the republic of Hungary Ferenc Gyurcsány.

The host and his guest agreed that traditionally good relations between the two countries could be strengthened in numerous areas. There are ample opportunities for strengthening cooperation with regard to energy safety and transport connections, in particular Luka Koper. Both Mr Janša and Mr Gyurcsány expressed hope that procedures regarding the signing of a contract for building the Ljubljana Passenger Centre would be concluded in the next few months.

The Prime Ministers also reviewed the position of both minorities, and remain committed to undertaking further measures for providing protection of their rights. They agreed that a working meeting of both governments would be organised in the border area where the minorities live, presumably in October this year.
