Prime Minister Janez Janša and his team begin their visit to Dolenjska and Bela krajina

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Janez Janša, and his cabinet began their second visit to Dolenjska and Bela krajina with a visit to the Revoz factory in Novo mesto. The PM saw the production of the new Twingo, the government having contributed to the 400 million euro investment.

his speech, Mr Janša stressed that with regard to Twingo production it is particularly important that the supply of component parts from the Novo mesto area has increased. Slovenian suppliers now contribute almost 30 per cent of all car parts, which is three times more than with Clio and has resulted in 500 new jobs.

According to the PM, Revoz is one of the most modern and profitable plants in the Renault corporation.. Since the last cabinet visit to Revoz less than 18 months ago, the whole country has also achieved many things and taken measures to disburden the economy. Last year Slovenia recorded 5.2 per cent economic growth, which was largely to the credit of exporters. This year, it has successfully adopted the common European currency as the first new EU member state, which must have also simplified business operations of Revoz, the biggest Slovenian exporter since 1993.

"We have modernised and simplified the tax system, and enabled companies to employ highly qualified staff more easily. Negotiations with social partners are about to close and the new Employment Relations Act will facilitate a more flexible labour market. These changes will doubtless contribute to increasing the competitiveness of companies, particularly exporters, which are the engine of development," said the PM. On this occasion Mr Janša met Marcel Brouiller, President of the Board of Managers at Revoz and took a test drive in the new Twingo.

In the afternoon, the PM met Msgr. Andrej Glavan, Bishop Ordinary of the diocese of Novo mesto.

Tomorrow morning there will be cabinet meeting to discuss what undertakings made a year ago have been realised and analyse new development opportunities in the region. The PM will then attend the opening of the Sinteza IV unit in the Krka pharmaceutical plant in Novo mesto.
