Prime Minister Janez Janša visits Železniki after a severe thunderstorm

Today, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Janez Janša, who was scheduled to open new production facilities in the company Domel during the Government's visit to the Gorenjska region, arrived in the town of Železniki to inspect the devastation caused by a severe thunderstorm.

The PM expressed regret that his visit to the region began otherwise than planned. "I have been particularly looking forward to visiting Domel, opening new production facilities and attending a presentation of a new line of hydrogen cells and hydrogen technology products," PM Janez Janša said.

"On our way to Železniki we have noticed that the storm was devastating. According to first estimates, the rainfall was between 50 and 100 litres per square metre, which is why the devastation we have witnessed in Železniki and its surroundings is so extensive." The PM expressed hope that the storm did not take human lives. "Everything else can be repaired. We will join forces and do everything we possibly can," the PM assured the locals.

PM Janez Janša has already spoken about the damage in Domel with the company's CEO, Dr Jožica Rejec. He was also informed of the first measures aimed at repairing the damage. "First, the damage must be assessed and then we need to see how much will be covered by insurance companies. As for the remaining damage, the Government of the Republic of Slovenia will do everything it can. This does not apply only to this company but to all who were affected by the storm."

The PM stressed that damage assessment and repair measures would be the first item on the agenda at tomorrow's working meeting in Kranjska Gora.
