Prime Minister Janez Janša: International cooperation is paramount to environment protection

In his address, the PM expressed satisfaction that the focus of this year's conference was on environment protection in connection with criminal law, since the former is one of Slovenia's Presidency priorities, which is reflected in both national legislation and the implementation of the acquis. He added that today, environment protection sometimes does not receive due attention, and that we often forget the importance of conserving, if not improving, the environment in which we live.

"Environmental offences are an increasing international problem, which demands that offenders be punished under both national and international laws," said the PM Janez Janša, adding that this makes collaboration between countries all he more significant. The Slovenian PM believes that meetings of Prosecutors-General such as this one are a good opportunity to exchange experience and more effectively combat crime.
