Prime Minister Janez Janša: Election results are bad and the situation which led to them worrying

Today, in a statement for the media the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Janez Janša, commented on the current political situation after the run-off presidential elections and the first published analyses of election results.

In his statement the PM said that the results of the presidential elections were bad and that the situation which led to such results was worrying. "First analyses show that the pre-election campaign largely focused on bashing the Government; there were very few discussions on Slovenia's future," said the PM, adding that it was particularly worrying that during the election campaign, powerful forces set out to tarnish the Government's reputation abroad before the EU Presidency.

"The message going from Slovenia to the EU and other countries pictured the situation here as if it was Belarus or some other country like that. This creates an environment which also makes it difficult for the government to deal with routine and normal matters," said the PM, adding that working on preparations for the Presidency of the EU, which demands great efforts from the Government, is particularly difficult.

"We will continue to analyse the situation; however, I can say that all possibilities are open, including the Government's resignation," concluded Mr Janša.
