PM Janez Janša took the opportunity to wish Paroch Peran Bošković and the entire Serbian Orthodox Church congregation in Slovenia a merry Christmas; they also discussed the situation of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Slovenia. “We want Orthodox Church members to feel that they are equal and free in Slovenia and that the Orthodox Church in Slovenia is treated on an equal footing with all other religious communities, as enshrined in our Constitution, with all the statutory benefits provided to any religious community under Slovenia's legal order”, said the Prime Minister after the meeting.

The Prime Minister Janez Janša expressed support on behalf of his Government for the Serbian Orthodox Church’s ambitious plans for the coming years, which include the construction of a new cultural and pastoral centre in Ljubljana. PM Janez Janša welcomed the donation campaign already in progress, aimed at raising funds for this venture. “Slovenian companies, particularly those cooperating closely with companies in Serbia and in Bosnia and Herzegovina – and in the Western Balkans generally – have been generous in giving donations and helping to get the project up and running,” stressed the Prime Minister, going on to add that the Slovenian Government would look into the statutory and financial possibilities by means of which the project might be granted direct aid.
