Effects of tax reform are, in general, positive, according to Prime Minister Janez Janša

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia today had a meeting with representatives of the Chamber of Craft and Small Business of Slovenia (OZS) to discuss the effects of the tax reform that entered into force on 1 January 2007, focusing in particular on its effects on small and micro enterprises. The issue of tax relief was at the forefront of their talks.

After the meeting, Prime Minister Janez Janša said that the tax relief – introduced instead of investment tax relief – had created more possibilities for additional investments.  He added that the new tax reform enabled tax relief to be applied not only in the current year but also in the next five years. The Prime Minister thus assessed the effects of the tax reform as positive, adding, however, that certain aspects might, perhaps, need amending. “Bearing this in mind, we will also examine in detail the initiative from the Slovenian Chamber of Craft and a number of individual entities, especially small and micro enterprises, to allow tax relief on development investments,” assured the Prime Minister, adding that the Government would adopt practical solutions only when it had acquired all the data for the first tax year in which new tax legislation applied.

Prime Minister Janez Janša and OZS President Miroslav Kljun agreed that a solution that would be satisfactory to both sides should be sought within the framework of the interpretation of the existing law and within the paradigm of the renewed Lisbon Strategy, which provides for further faster development of small and medium-sized enterprises.
