Prime Minister Janez Janša hopes for a responsible, peaceful and dignified rally

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, attending the 38th regular session of the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia to answer questions from deputies, commented on some topical issues. The Prime Minister said he hoped that all those attending tomorrow’s rally for a fair border, to take place at the Slovenian-Croatian border on the Dragonja River, would behave in a responsible, peaceful and dignified manner.

In the PM’s words, the last thing that Slovenia needs at the moment is excitability that might undermine its currently strong negotiating positions with Croatia. “The Dragonja River has always been a rallying point in election years. I regret that certain people who will be attending the rally did not solve these problems back in the 1990s, when they had every means to act and when the situation was a bit more complicated than it is today,” commented the PM.

With the drafting of the budget amendment for 2008, the Government is announcing additional savings, and a budget surplus will be created. “The Government would thereby like to send the general public and the entire public sector a message that additional savings are necessary to curb inflation. With today’s decision to find ways to tighten the belt even more, despite rather unfavourable wider circumstances, the Government has given an important pointer for future action,” concluded the Prime Minister.
